Insurance Agents and mortgage brokers often work together to help clients finalize the purchaseof a home. Here’s how the process typically works:

1. Securing A Loan and Financing

The mortgage broker helps the client to secure a mortgage loan by pre-qualifying them and finding a lender that will provide financing. The mortgage broker will also help the client to understand the terms of the loan and the costs associated with it like homeowners insurance.

2. Insuring the Home

The insurance agent helps the client to secure homeowners insurance. This is a type of insurance that protects the home and the property inside it from damage or loss. The insurance agent will work with the client to understand their insurance needs and recommend a policy that will provide adequate coverage based off of the replacement cost of the home the client is purchasing.

3. Proof of Insurance

Once the mortgage loan is approved, the lender will require the client to provide proof of homeowners insurance before the loan can be closed. The insurance agent will work with the mortgage broker to provide the lender with the necessary documentation, such as a copy of the insurance binder and a receipt for the first year’s premium.

4. Other Types of Insurance

The mortgage broker will also be able to advise on other types of insurance that may be required for the home, such as title insurance, which protects the homeowner from any legal issues that may arise from the title of the property.

5. Adequate Coverage

Your broker will work with your insurance agent to ensure that the client’s insurance policy is adequate for the loan requirements and replacement cost of the home.
