10 Winter Activities to Enjoy in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region

1. Ice Skating!  Skate at the Merrill Fay Arena in Laconia during one of their free skates or join their learn to skate program, coached by our own team member, Tim Gerry 

2. New England Pond Hockey Classic.  The New England Pond Hockey Classic takes place on Lake Winnipesaukee bringing thousands of players to the ice. This year will feature over 275 teams with over 500 games. It has become one of the biggest attractions to the Lakes Region all year long.

3. New England Sled Dog Club and Skijor Race.  New England’s oldest sled dog club that has been racing since 1924. Spectators are not charged for admission.  

4. Meredith Rotary Fishing Derby.  Meredith Rotary Club Ice Fishing Derby, February 12-13, 2022. Not just for the locals! People gather to compete for prizes like $15,000 cash! Come and see all of the bob houses along Lake Winni!  

5. Visit the Ice Castles in Lincoln, NH. It is a must see winter creation made up of hundreds of thousands of icicles. Opening back up for the year in mid-January. 

6. Gunstock Mountain.  Enjoy a variety of winter activities such as ziplining, tubing, alpine and cross country skiing at one location.  Plenty of terrain to explore for all skiing abilities and views that will keep you coming back again and again.

7. Horse Drawn Carriage Rides at Mill Falls at the Lake.  Meredith turns into a picturesque New England town in wintertime straight from a fairytale. Enjoy horse drawn carriage rides. When you are finished enjoy shopping at Mill Falls or go to one of the many restaurants to warm up with a mug of hot chocolate. 

8. Lakes Region Ice Racing Club.  Watch modifieds, sprint cars, V-8 stocks and 4 cylinder cars race every Sunday from January to March, weather and ice permitting. 

9. Funspot.  Visit the largest arcade in the world with over 600 video games to choose from! Ten pin bowling, candlepin bowling and indoor mini golf make it a blast for all generations.  

10. Snowshoeing.  Castle in the Clouds has 30 miles of wooded trails maintained by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust.
